Somewhere in Time Mixology Kits on Sale

Welcome to another Mixology...the monthly event at GDS where all the designers create packs around the same color palette and title. I have two template packs, which are on sale for $1.20 until March 7, 2016.

Somewhere in Time 1

I always include a pocket page template pack in the Mixology. And I always try to make it something different, something you might not have among your stash. The time theme had me thinking it would be great to have a template set about scrapping your typical day. Many of us use our scrapbooks in place of a journal, I know I make more pages than I do write. Somewhere in Time 1 allows you to preserve how you spend your day so your family and friends can look back and know what your life was like.

Somewhere in Time 2

I had a lot of fun creating Somewhere in Time 2. This template pack plays with a torn photo as the primary focal point. You have frames to add more photos to help enhance the visual story. And don't overlook the fun border clusters filled with trims and tabs. I truly enjoyed making this kit and personally cannot wait to use it for my own photos.

Here are some layouts from my creative team. First up, layouts with Somewhere in Time 1.

Here are samples using Somewhere in Time 2.

I hope you enjoy playing with these templates. We have a new month starting and lots of new goods at the end of the week. I will be back with new kits, new freebies and a new template challenge!

Daily Download Day 8 Freebie

Today is the last day of my designer spotlight and daily downloads. There are a few hours left to pick up the last pack for free. I want to thank everyone who participated and collected all the downloads. I appreciate the kinds comments and interaction on my LissyKay Facebook page. It has been a joy to get to know some of my regular customers a little better, as well as meet new ones.

Here is a look at the last download. The February 23, 2016 pack are two Facebook timeline cover templates. One is designed for you to fill with your favorite photos, as well as decorate with a coordinating kit. There is a second one without photos. You can use it as is, or you can replace elements with pieces from a kit. Remove the photo spot, save as a jpeg and load to Facebook.

Starting on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, the GDS shop will launch the monthly Mixology packs. These are all color coordinated packs from each of the designers. There are two template packs in my shop and they will be on sale for $1.20 each.

I have also kept the $1 template packs on sale until the end of the month. They were launched during my designer spotlight. The packs are Story Grids Labels and We Go Together.

I hope you have a great rest of the week! Get some scrap time in and enjoy your "me" time.

Daily Download Day 7 Freebie & $1 Kits

We are getting close to the end of the daily downloads. Today's download is a fun, new template design combining some features from a fan favorite. The February 22, 2016 download is a page frame template with an artistic flair. Think stained glass or a kaleidoscope. It is a fun way to show off scrapbook papers and that one special photo.

Every spot within the page frame has an individual mask. This will make it easy for you to either clip a photo or paper to each spot. You don't have to figure out those spots and the sizes...all that is already done!

$1 Template Packs

There are two new template packs in the shop and are on special for only $1. These were created for my designer spotlight week and put at a significant discount to thank you all for being such great customers and friends. These two kits are on sale until February 29, 2016. Story Grids Labels are page frames and a continuation to the Story Grids series. We Go Together combines 4-photo spots with chunky paper and element spots.

Daily Downloads Days 4-6

If you missed any of the daily downloads, here are the close up looks at days 4, 5 and 6.

February 19, 2016

The February 19, 2016 daily download features a custom Polaroid frame with an optional doodle frame. They are the jumping point to play with cheeky hashtags. These are great ways to offer up the humor in your photos. Even a simple photo may not tell all you want about the person, so the hashtags help. That is exactly what I did with my daughter's photo. If you know her, you know there is nothing simple about this kiddo.

February 20, 2016

A little paint, art words and a few flairs are the starting points for creating your won titles. The February 20, 2016 daily download are custom made paint title masks for you to use on your layouts. Recolor or clip paper to them. I used one in conjunction with an art kit to show off my daughter's talent and passion.

February 21, 2016

Back to scrapbook page templates. It would not be a LissyKay collection without a big photo layout! So the February 21, 2016 daily download is all about the big photo page. One of the things I miss most about paper scrapping is paper piecing. This is where you use paper to make things like critters. Once you figure out the basics of making dolls, animals and objects, it is easy to transfer those techniques to digital. After all, it is really just shapes. So I had to include a little pig...they seem to be everywhere lately. At least in the world I share with my teenage daughter, we see them a lot via videos and memes.

There are only a few days left, but all the individual daily downloads will be available to purchase if you missed the free downloads.

Have fun scrapping!

Daily Download Day 3 Freebie Available

It is day 3 of my designer spotlight and daily download. Head over to pick up the February 18, 2016 template. Today's free pack is a 12x12 template. I loved making this template so much that I actually considered not putting it in the collection. I thought about making a whole kit just around this theme...but then I realized I really wanted to include it because it is so fun!

Here is more of the story about this template, which I shared on the LissyKay Facebook page: This particular page didn't start off as a sketch. The inspiration came from an unexpected place. My daughter is 15 and really wanted to make a collage on her wall of all her photos with family, friends and places she went. She also wanted to incorporate her art, album covers and whatever else it is teenage girls love. She started putting items on the wall and it looked beyond disorganized. This OCD gal could not handle it. So we came up with an idea to create visual anchor points. Instead of just scattering photos all over her wall, we made visual eye paths with long pieces of scrapbook paper. The paper was all the same size so as not to distract from her pictures and canvases. It was neat to see how these symmetrical lines provided a feeling of organization, even among the asymmetrical photos. The same concept was applied to this page. You have a mini version of what we are working on in my daughter's room. Your eyes know where to start, your brain is happy there are recognizable places to move along the path and you don't feel overwhelmed by the variety.

How is that for a little psychology and how I apply it to my scrapbook art!?

Some gals on my creative team came up with some cute pages using this template:

Daily Download Day 2 Freebie Available

We are now into the second day of my daily download series! Here is a close up look at the February 17, 2016 template you can pick up today, for free.

Over on the LKD Facebook page, I shared a little bit of the backstory behind this template. I will post that here, as well. I know for me when I learn what a designer was thinking, it gives me ideas on how to use her product.

I keep a sketchbook with me all the time because you never know when an idea will hit. I wanted to make a layout with a grid-like structure. I sketched it out and later went to work on the template. After doing the initial mock up, I was not all that happy with the look. It was too structured, almost boring. I needed to add some personality to make this template something different than all the other square photo spot templates out there. I started turning the photo spots just slightly. Then I added elements similar to what you might find in your office desk or scrapbook table. From there, I realized I needed to drop some of the photo spots so I could loose the identical symmetry. And once I go a little quirky, I have to top it off with some doodles and scatters.

That is literally my entire thought process creating this template. I noticed in my personal scrapbooks, I don't use a ton of photos on one page. I am making a conscious effort to get over that design behavior. When you are OCD, it can be hard to let go of what feels comfortable. That is also a great reason to try different looks. When we step outside of our comfort zone, you open yourself up to so many new creative possibilities. And every now and then, you end up with a gorgeous work of art.

Here are some layouts my creative team made with today's daily download.

$2 Tuesday Back for February 2016

During the month of February 2016, the GDS shop will host three $2 Tuesdays. The first one opened today and runs until 11:59pm Pacific time. The next two dates are February 16th and 23rd.

Three love-themed template packs from the LissyKay shop were added to the sale. Due to some glitches getting the sale on this morning in the shop and my own personal schedule, I didn't get a chance to get the word out to you scrappers sooner. So the three kits I have in the $2 sale today will also be in the sale on the 16th. This will ensure those who would like these template packs can still get them at 50% off the original price before the month is over. And let me know if you miss them today but need them before Valentine's Day...I can hook you up! <Insert a cheeky wink from me here!>

All About Love

Lots of hearts meets lots of artsy flair! All About Love is up at the top of my list of favorite love-themed template packs because of the combination of artistic elements. Anyone who knows my own personal style would not be surprised to know why I made this kit. From the multiple paint layers, paint masks, stitches, custom frames, doodles and elements, you can make your own masterpiece about who you love. There are so many things you can do with this kit just by clipping digital paper to all the many layers of paper and paint. Top off with some great elements and your photos, you will end up with layouts worthy of an art museum.

Shabby Love Templates

Another "early in my design career" template kit is Shabby Love. All four of these templates were designed based on layouts I had made for creative team assignments. In fact, three of them were from layouts I made using ForeverJoy Designs, who happens to be one of my absolute favorite designers. If you are familiar with ForeverJoy kits, then you might be able to spot some of the inspirations I found from her work and how they translated to a LKD template. All the little bits and pieces, along with the paint and organic bits we associate with shabby styles are all covered in this pack.

My Story Volume 3 Templates

The pocket inspired template pack My Story Volume 3 was one of my first My Story kits. Early in my design career, the My Story templates became a fun alternative to other Project Life and pocket-style layouts. Combining a variety of shapes set into a page frame for added depth gave a fast and fun way to show off papers, journal cards and photos. These templates make the whole scrap process fast with masks ready for you to clip to. And you can add elements into the open windows or on top of the frame. These are truly universal templates which know very few limits.

Check back next Tuesday to see which past LKD kits will be in the sale. You can also make recommendations. I will be setting up a voting process for people to recommend, then we will have a vote as to which kits will be in the sale.
